Rodney Whitaker, 65, of Woodlawn, Illinois passed away at 3:45 A.M. April 12, 2017 at Crossroads Community Hospital in Mount Vernon, Illinois. He was born May 5, 1951 in Mount Vernon, Illinois to parents, Jack and Augusta (Rodotz) Page. Rodney married Charlotte Shannon on June 21, 1969.
A Graveside Service will be held Saturday, April 15, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. at Independent Order of Oddfellows Cemetery in Woodlawn, Illinois with Mr. Steve Langa officiating. Interment will follow.
A Visitation will be held Friday, April 14, 2017 from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Newell Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois.
Rodney is survived by his wife, Charlotte Whitaker of Woodlawn, Illinois; children, Brian Whitaker of Woodlawn, Illinois and Dena Hall and husband, Tony of Mount Vernon, Illinois; grandchildren, Amanda Coleman and husband, Mike of Mount Vernon, Illinois and Walker Hall of Mount Vernon, Illinois; great-grandchildren, Jackson Kirkpatrick of Mount Vernon, Illinois and Tucker Coleman of Mount Vernon, Illinois; and uncle, Bill Rodotz of Woodlawn, Illinois.
Rodney was preceded in death by his parents and father and mother-in-law, Todd and Christine Shannon.
Rodney was a member of the Mount Vernon Gun and Sportsman Club, Moose Lodge, Elks Lodge in Centralia, and Sons of American Legion. He enjoyed being outdoors where he could hunt and fish. He also enjoyed watching Nascar. Rodney's greatest joy was spending time with his family. He was dearly loved and will be missed by all who knew him.
