Reva's Story

Reva Ann Petty, 92, of Mount Vernon, Illinois reached her Heavenly home surrounded by her loving family at 1:55 P.M. on Tuesday, September 27, 2016 at Centralia Manor in Centralia, Illinois. She was born Wednesday, June 25, 1924 the daughter of Ira Joshua & Edna Veniece (Green) Black. She married Howard Petty on January 19, 1942 in Mount Vernon, Illinois and he preceded her in death after a loving 61 years of marriage on March 30, 2002.
A Visitation will be held at 11:30 A.M. until Service Time of 1:30 P.M. Friday, September 30, 2016 at Newell Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois with Reverend David Shores officiating. Interment will follow at Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn, Illinois.
Mrs. Petty is survived by her 2 daughters: Rebecca Mount and husband Rick of Mount Vernon, Illinois and Pat Hayes of Dix, Illinois, son: Lindell Ray Petty and wife Nell of Webster, Florida, 10 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and several cousins, and one great-great grandchild on the way.
Her parents, husband, son: Howard Jackson Petty, one sister: Avis Cherry, and one grandson: Jeff Webb preceded her in death.
Reva was a member of First Freewill Baptist Church and was an accomplished seamstress who enjoyed quilting and crocheting. She worked as a seamstress for Lyn Gai Garment Factory and worked for 14 years at Hollywood Candy Factory. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and Daughters of the American Revolution. She loved her family, was a loving Christian woman, and was her families Rock.
For those who wish, memorials may be given to the First Freewill Baptist Church and will be accepted at the Funeral Home or mailed to P.O. Box 721 Mount Vernon, Illinois 62864.
