Pauline's Story

Pauline Sharp, 96, of Mount Vernon, Illinois passed away at 10:40 P.M. May 10, 2017 at her residence in Mount Vernon. She was born February 25, 1921 in Mount Vernon to parents, Clyde and Eva Mae (Little) Sammons. Pauline married Dale F. Sharp on October 10, 1941 in Mount Vernon. They were blessed with 54 years of marriage before he preceded her in death on November 23, 1995.
A Funeral Service will be held Saturday, May 13, 2017 at 2:00 P.M. at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.
A Visitation will be held Saturday, May 13, 2017 from 12:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. at Hughey Funeral Home.
Pauline is survived by her children, Terry Sharp of Mount Vernon, Illinois, Nancy Burton and husband, Jim of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, and Dennis W. Sharp of Murray, Kentucky; grandchildren, Kevin Burton, Jordan Burton and wife, Sacha, Adam Sharp, Robin Wrather and husband, Jason, and Ryan Burton and wife, Marie; great-grandchildren, Reese Wrathers, Gavin Wrathers, Malloree Wrathers, Ryleigh Burton, and Nora Sharp; sisters, Virginia L. Bain of Mount Vernon, Illinois and Mary Catherine Ragan of Mount Zion, Illinois; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Pauline was preceded in death by her sister, Eva L. Bain.
Pauline was a Illinois Bell Telephone Operator and later a Mount Vernon City Schools Library Clerk. She was a member of Logan Street Baptist Church, Jefferson County Home Extension, and was a charter member of Little Egypt Roadrunners.
