Paul Wallace Conner age 96 born in Benton, Illinois August 13, 1920 passed away Nov. 06, 2016 in Ocala, FL where he spent the past 3 years living at the Hampton Manor Assisted Living Facility.
Paul and his family was primarily raised in the general Ina, Illinois area and spent many years living in Ina; Pascagoula, Mississippi; and last several years in Lochloosa, Florida where his middle son Gilbert resides. Paul was blessed to share 75 years together with his wife Helen Guylene (Mitchell) Conner before her passing at age 91 in Ocala on February, 13, 2015.
In 1913 the Conner family traveled in a covered wagon from Illinois to Pittsburg, Oklahoma with 2 young children (brothers Alvis & Willis) where they lived during which time Paul's older brothers (Woodrow and Charley) were born. But in 1917 it was decided that Illinois was a more suitable place for the Conner family to permanently settle . So, they loaded up the old covered wagon & returned to southern Illinois (Whittington) area where Ralph, Paul, Olin, Howard, & one sister Laura were born.
Paul was a WWII veteran of the US Navy as were many of his brothers.
Paul was a wonderful father, husband and loving human with a lot of humorous wit, kind and generous heart who loved to fish and hunt. He was very intelligent even though he completed only 8 years of education before beginning a working carrier at 13 after his mother passed away.
He was self educated in higher learning and exceptionally skilled in many self-taught crafts as a farmer, auto mechanic, electrician, electronic tech, carpenter, plumber, welder, millwright, brick mason, and many more areas of interest and need. He was a master of them all.
His main focus throughout his life was providing a quality home, life style, and loving care and safety for his wife Helen and 3 sons Robert, Gilbert, & James.
Paul's surviving family are: his eldest sons Robert Paul Conner of Richland, WA & Gilbert Louis Conner of Lochloosa, FL.; 5 granddaughters, 3 grandsons, 3 great-granddaughters, and 4 great-grandsons.
Paul was preceded in death by wife Helen & his father & mother Louis and Oma (Sweetin) Conner along with his brothers Alvis ("Mope"), Willis ("Pete"), Woodrow ("Tom"), Charley (deceased at age 3), Ralph ("Pat"), Olin (killed at sea Navy WWII), Howard, sister Laura, half-brothers J.R. Conner & Donald Conner and Paul & Helen's youngest son James Conner in 1988.
At Paul's request he will be buried next to his wife Helen (Mitchell) Conner, son James and parents Louis & Oma with only a brief closed casket grave-site service to be conducted at 2:00 PM on Sunday Nov. 13, 2016 located south of Ina at the Franklin Cemetery in Whittington, IL (Franklin Cemetery Road Off I-57). Military Rites will be conducted at the cemetery by Mt. Vernon American Legion Post #141
