Myra G. Murray, 94, of Mount Vernon, Illinois passed away at 12:50 P.M. Tuesday, September 6, 2016 at Mount Vernon Countryside Manor in Mount Vernon, Illinois. She was born Thursday, August 17, 1922 in Mount Vernon, Illinois to parents, Walter and Ida Mae (Groves) Gibson. She married Hugh B. Murray on January 31, 1942 in Huntsville, Alabama and he preceded her in death after 71 years of marriage on June 19, 2013.
A Graveside Service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, September 10, 2016 at Oakwood Cemetery in Mount Vernon, Illinois with Reverend Merle Fullerton officiating with interment to follow.
A Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Friday, September 9, 2016 at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois.
Myra is survived by her son: John Murray of Scottsville, Kentucky, two grandsons: Mike Murray and wife Julie of Winchester, Kentucky and Jared Murray and wife Ally of Cincinnati, Ohio, three great grandchildren: Kylee Murray of Winchester, Kentucky; Sydney Murray of Winchester, Kentucky; and Jack Murray of Cincinnati, Ohio, special niece: Sandy Cannon and husband Dick of Whitney, Texas, special cousin: Sue McPherson and husband Carl of Mount Vernon, Illinois, and special caregiver: LeAnn Ford of Mount Vernon, Illinois. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Her parents, husband, sister: Jean Carpenter, and brother-in-law: Kip Carpenter preceded her in death.
Myra was a member of Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #233 where she served as a past Worthy Matron, the Turner Roehm AMVETS Post #4 Auxiliary, the Jefferson County Genealogy Club, and the Jefferson County Historical Society. She served as a Girl Scout leader and was a member of First Baptist Church in Mount Vernon, where she taught Sunday School and Bible School.
For those who wish, memorials may be given to the First Baptist Church or SSM Hospice and will be accepted at the funeral home or mailed to Hughey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 721, Mount Vernon, Illinois 62864.
