Jeanne's Story

Jeanne (Clark) Bourque Ratliff, 88, was born on Feb 20, 1928 to Rowland and Mary Clark, Carmi, IL. She was married to Joseph Alan Bourque (1952-1966) of Boston, MA with whom she had four children. Her second marriage was to Melvin Ratliff (1978 - 1982) of St. Louis, MO. She was preceded in death by her parents and both husbands.

Surviving family members include children: Alan Bourque and wife, Gwen; James Bourque; Mary Elizabeth Bourque; Phillip Bourque and wife, Delaila. Grandchildren: Jason Bourque and wife Jenny; Joanna Bourque; Joe Bourque and wife, Teri; Jon Bourque and wife, Beth; Joel Bourque and wife, Emily Meadows; Julia (Bourque) Amato and husband, Adam; Jessica Bourque and eight great-grandchildren. Sister, Janet (Clark) Fransham and husband, Carl; Nephew, Eric Fransham and wife, Natalie; Niece, Rebecca Fransham, two great-nephews and two great-nieces; Cousin, Betty Mains and Jeanne's dear, lifelong friend, Linda Sheffield.

Upon graduating from Illinois Wesleyan with a bachelors degree in music, Jeanne gave private voice lessons, conducted the choir at St. Mary's Church, participated in the Community Concert series and taught music in the Mt. Vernon school system. She later became certified to teach remedial reading and work with the learning disabled, both of which she found to be very rewarding. Upon retiring, she opened a day care facility in her home.

Jeanne, an observant Catholic, passed peacefully on October 5th, surrounded by family and her loving caregivers at Mt. Vernon Countryside Manor. She will be remembered by many for her kindness, generosity, great love of music and animals. The family will hold a private memorial service but remembrances may be made in her name to the Humane Society.
