James Edward Jim Dodson, 87, of Mount Vernon, Illinois passed away at 9:42 A.M. June 1, 2017 at Mt. Vernon Countryside Manor in Mount Vernon, Illinois surrounded by his family. He was born May 4, 1930 in Mount Vernon, Illinois to parents, William E. & Virginia (Snow) Dodson. He married Freda Evonne Carroll on January 16, 1949 in Morganfield, Kentucky and she preceded him in death on March 2, 2016.
A Visitation will be held Monday, June 5, 2017 from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois.
A Funeral Service will be held Monday, June 5, 2017 at 1:00 P.M. at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois with Reverend Paul Widicus officiating. Interment will follow at Kirk Cemetery in Ina, Illinois where members of the Mt. Vernon American Legion Post #141 will conduct a Flag Presentation.
Jim is survived by his children, James Jay Dodson and wife, Jamie of Mount Vernon, Illinois, Susan Nave and husband, Mark of Mount Vernon, Illinois, and Michael Scott Dodson of Mount Vernon, Illinois; daughter-in-law; Teresa Dodson of Mount Vernon, Illinois; grandchildren, Greg Dodson and wife, Shanna of Decatur, Illinois, Ryan Dodson of Mount Vernon, Illinois, Brittany Richards and husband, Brandon of Galatia, Illinois, Misha Boykin and husband, Martin of Mount Vernon, Illinois, and Casey Lampley of West Frankfort, Illinois; great-grandchildren, Cody Dodson, Landon Mays, Ella Mays, Brielle Richards, Brantley Richards, Logan Lampley, Olivia Lampley, Ava Marie Boykin, and Luke Lampley; brothers, Bob Dodson and wife, Donna of Mount Vernon, Illinois and Donald Dodson of Mount Vernon, Illinois; and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife; son, Terry Dodson; great-grandson, Grant James Boykin; granddaughter-in-law, Tiffany Lampley; and sister-in-law, Colleen Dodson.
Jim proudly served the United States Army Air Force from 1951 until 1955. He was a member of the Methodist faith and the Mt. Vernon American Legion Post #141. He worked as a laborer at Jax Asphalt Company.
For those who wish, memorials may be given to Wesley United Methodist Church or Kirk Cemetery and will be accepted at the funeral home or mailed to Hughey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 721, Mount Vernon, Illinois 62864.
