Isabel's Story

Isabel "Issie" Gaunt, 106, of Mount Vernon, Illinois passed away at 12:30 A.M. September 19, 2017 at her residence at Greentree in Mount Vernon. She was born February 11, 1911 in Jefferson County, Illinois to Fred M. & Nelle (Lisenby) Vaughn. She married Joseph W. "Joe" Gaunt on August 23, 1930 in Mount Vernon, Illinois and he preceded her in death on January 11, 1999.
"Issie" is survived by her grandchildren, Janet (Regenhardt) Thaxton and husband, Ralph of Wayland, Massachusetts, Jo Ann (Regenhardt) Puntney and husband, Eric of Mount Vernon, Illinois, Joseph William Jody Gaunt III and wife, Deb of Park Forest, Illinois, Judy Haynes and husband, Bert of Bluford, Illinois, and Julie Moore of Mount Vernon, Illinois; 15 great-grandchildren; 23 great-great-grandchildren; and son-in-law, Norman Murphy.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Joseph William Joe Bill, Jr.; daughter, Phyllis Ann Murphy; granddaughter, Karin Bruce; and great-grandson, Jake Longley.
Issie worked alongside her husband as owner and operator of Gaunts TV and Appliance. She was a member of First Baptist Church and past member of the Business and Professional Women. She made it to the Bowling Hall of Fame in Mount Vernon and was active in the Illinois Parent Teacher Association. She enjoyed playing bridge at the Elks with her friends and will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Visitation: 10:00 A.M. until 12:00 P.M. Saturday, September 23, 2017 at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois.
Funeral Service: 12:00 P.M. Saturday, September 23, 2017 at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois with Mr. Randy Hayes officiating.
Interment: Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn, Illinois.
