Gwen H. McKenzie, 93, of Hartford City, Indiana, formerly of Mount Vernon, Illinois passed away at 2:50 P.M. Thursday, January 12, 2017 at Miller's Merry Manor Nursing Home in Hartford City, Indiana. She was born Wednesday, March 28, 1923 in Mount Vernon, Illinois to parents, Schuyler Colfax and Effie Alice (Owens) Huston. She married Tony M. McKenzie in St. Louis, Missouri on January 20, 1945 and he preceded her in death on February 4, 2003.
A Visitation will be from 12:30 P.M. until service time, 1:30 P.M. Saturday, January 21, 2017 at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois.
A Funeral Service will be held at 1:30 P.M. Saturday, January 21, 2017 at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois with Reverend Randy Hayes officiating. Interment will follow at East Salem Cemetery in rural Mount Vernon, Illinois.
Gwen H. McKenzie is survived by her 2 daughters, Karen M. Kluck and husband, Ted of Hartford City, Indiana, Sharon D. Benjamin and husband Mark of Crest Hill, Illinois; son, Tony Sonny McKenzie and wife, Sondra of Marion, Illinois; daughter-in-law, Sunday McKenzie of Mount Vernon, Illinois; 12 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; and 2 brothers, Russell Huston and wife Hilda of Mount Vernon, Illinois and Lester Huston of Mount Vernon, Illinois.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; 3 children, Richard Dick McKenzie, Joyce McVey, and Myrtle L. Collins; 1 grandchild; and 12 siblings.
She worked in sales at Musgrove Shoe Store in Mount Vernon, Illinois, was a member of East Salem Baptist Church where she taught childrens Sunday school and was very active. She always worked the polls during elections and will be missed by everyone that knew her.
