Dolores's Story

Dolores Irene (Page) Lucas, 90, of Mount Vernon, Illinois passed away at 12:20 P.M. April 29, 2017 at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mount Vernon, Illinois. She was born April 10, 1927 in Logan County, Illinois to parents, Osco Coleman and Rosetta Irene (Lowery) Page. She married Sgt. Charles Melvin Lucas on December 16, 1945 in Fort Richardson, Alaska and he preceded her in death on August 23, 2014.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, May 6, 2017 at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois with Mr. Randy Sells officiating.
Greeting of Family and Friends will be from 1:00 to 2:00 P.M. Saturday, May 6, 2017 at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois.
Dolores is survived by her three sons, Larry Lucas and wife Brenda of Roanoke, Virginia, James Lucas and wife Nancy of Shady Valley, Tennessee, and Danny Lucas and wife Sherri of Mount Vernon, Illinois; brother, Michael Page of Mount Vernon, Illinois; one granddaughter, Crystal Ann Lucas; four grandsons, Steven, Timothy, Todd, and Tyler Lucas; and eight great grandchildren.
Her parents; husband; one brother; and three half-sisters preceded her in death.
Dolores grew up in Bloomington, Illinois graduating from Bloomington High School in January 1945. She was a retired accountant, licensed real estate representative, published writer and award-winning poet, and an actress entertaining troops in Alaska in 1945 where she was a civilian secretary for the U.S. Army Quartermaster Corps. Mrs. Lucas was former Vice-Regent of Daughters of the American Revolution Joel Pace Chapter; a former member of Mount Vernon Business and Professional Womens Club; Mount Vernon Writers; AMVETS Auxiliary; Elks Lodge; and Green Hills Country Club. She was of the Methodist faith and was an active member of the former Evangelical United Brethren Church where she taught a Sunday School class and directed youth choir. She was justly proud of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren and will be dearly missed.
