Carolyn's Story

Carolyn "Sue" Metcalf, 73, of Mount Vernon, Illinois passed away at 7:44 P.M. Friday, January 20, 2017 at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mount Vernon, Illinois. She was born Friday, March 12, 1943 in Marion, Illinois to parents, Leon Hodge and Ella (Howard) Brewer. Sue married Robert G. Metcalf in March of 1983 in Mount Vernon, Illinois. They were blessed with nearly 34 years of marriage.
A Funeral Service will be held at Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at 10:30 A.M. at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois with Mr. Randy Sells officiating. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Mount Vernon, Illinois.
A Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 24, 2017 from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois.
Sue is survived by her husband, Robert G. Metcalf of Mount Vernon, Illinois; children, Michelle Page and husband, Justin of Mount Vernon, Illinois, Nellie Hannebique of Missouri, Amy Jones and husband, Brian of Mount Vernon, Illinois, Ray Hannebique and wife, Taletha of Ohio, and Scott Metcalf and wife, Clare of Chicago, Illinois; grandchildren, Ryan T. Wellmaker, Madison Wellmaker, Zoe Wellmaker, Jake Page, Tyler Hannebique, Heath Hannebique, Sydney Hannebique, Morgan Jones, Ben Jones, Allyson Jones, Grace Metcalf, Peyton Metcalf, Will Metcalf, and Michael Hannebique; and brother, Jerry Hodge and wife, Dionne of Pennslyvania.
Sue was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Joanne; and brother, Stevie.
Sue was the manager at Anchor Garden and Rental Center. Prior to that, she was the office manager at Mount Vernon Medical Arts Clinic. She was an avid gardener. She enjoyed reading, traveling, decorating, and loved her cats. Sues greatest joy was her family and she worked very hard to provide for them. She was dearly loved and will be missed by all who knew her.
