Billie's Story

Billie A. Herbert, 87, who resided at Heritage Landing Apartments in Mount Vernon, Illinois for the past 7 years, passed away at 1:46 P.M. Tuesday, October 25, 2016 at her daughter, Leslie's residence in Mount Vernon, Illinois. She was born Saturday, March 16, 1929 in Norphlet, Arkansas to parents, Lester Calvin & Rose Augusta (Patrick) Coffer. She married Harry Gene Menefee and he preceded her in death on September 11, 2005 then later married Henry Herbert and he preceded her in death.
Per her request, Billie will be cremated and A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, December 16, 2016 at the Chapel at Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn, Illinois with Pastor Jason Newell officiating.
Billie Herbert is survived by her 2 daughters: Leslie Hawkins and Michael of Mount Vernon, Illinois and Billie Martin and Wendell of Fort Walton Beach, Florida, grandchildren: Jason Hawkins of Edwardsville, Illinois, Destin Hawkins of Mount Vernon, Illinois, Chance Martin of Navarre, Florida, Brooke (Martin) Crawford and Mike of Navarre, Florida, and Kristine Martin of Fort Walton Beach, Florida, great grandchildren: Chance and Dean Martin of Navarre, Florida and Kaylee, Alyssa, Micah, and Jenna Crawford of Navarre, Florida, beloved dog: Holly Hope, and many special friends also survive.
Her parents, first and second husbands, son: Marc Menefee, and granddaughter: Misty Hawkins preceded her in death.
Billie owned and operated Taco Villa Drive-In, worked at Bills Package Store in Fairfield, then later at Bon Worth in Mount Vernon. She was an animal lover, loved her family and friends, enjoyed sharing food with friends and family, and giving and receiving cards and gifts. She was a monitor at Rome Meadows Apartments in Dix, was a member of a Women's Club in Fairfield, was a member of Logan Street Baptist Church and later was affiliated with Orchardville Church. Pastors J. R. Janese and Mark Shell were a very important part of her and her family's life.
