Betty's Story

Betty S. Reece, 90, of Mount Vernon, Illinois passed away at 2:00 A.M. Saturday, November 19, 2016 at White Oak Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Mount Vernon, Illinois. She was born Friday, July 23, 1926 in Johnson County, Illinois to parents, Cove and Etta (Hall) Walker. She married Floyd Oscar Reece on October 11, 1947 in Jefferson County, Illinois and he preceded her in death on February 22, 2008.
A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, November 22, 2016 at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois with Reverend Phil Poe officiating. Interment will follow at Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn, Illinois.
A Visitation was from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. Monday, November 21, 2016 at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois.
Betty is survived by her daughter, Tina Trotter and husband Calvin of Mount Vernon, Illinois; stepdaughter, Dorothy Park and husband Bill of Magnet, Indiana; six grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; and six great-great grandchildren; brother, Kenneth Walker and wife Maureen of Pine Top, Arizona; sister-in-law, Virginia Walker of Mount Vernon, Illinois; and several nieces and nephews.
Her parents; husband; stepson, Jerry Reece; sisters, Doryce Farmer; Lucille Randolph; Violet Bedgley, Marie Stewart, and Frances Beshears; brothers, Wayne Walker and Norman Walker; and special daughter-in-law, Margie Reece preceded her in death.
Mrs. Reece was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church and the Happy Homemakers HCE and worked as a beautician. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and thoroughly enjoyed quilting.
For those who wish, memorials may be given to the Wesley United Methodist Church and will be accepted at the funeral home or mailed to Hughey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 721, Mount Vernon, Illinois 62864.
