Mrs. Virginia Beckham of Bonnie, IL departed this life for her heavenly home at her residence on Monday, December 4, 2017 after a sudden illness. She had attained the age of 69 years, 4 months and 2 days.
Virginia was born in St. Louis on August 2, 1948 the daughter of Vernon and Daisy (nee Hanson) Cockrum. She was united in marriage to Keith Beckham on July 1, 1992 and he preceded her in death on October 10, 2016.
Mrs. Beckham was a 1966 graduate of Mt. Vernon Twp. High School and received her nursing degree in 1973 from Rend Lake College. She worked as a nurse at Jefferson Memorial Hospital and later at Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon. She was also a cook at Summersville Grade School in Mt. Vernon and she retired as a teachers aide from the Waltonville School District. She was a member of the Waltonville Freewill Baptist Church and had served as church treasurer and Sunday school teacher. Virginia loved doing arts and crafts and scrapbooking and loved shopping at Hobby Lobby for her projects. She enjoyed spending time with her good friend, Beverly Grace and she loved times spent with her family.
Left to mourn her passing is five children, Chuck Skelton of Charleston, SC, Heather Skelton Todd and husband Paul of Okawville, IL, Sheryl Wilderman and husband Jerry of Waltonville, Peggy Kuhner and husband Mike of Waltonville and Brad Beckham and wife Ellen of Mt. Vernon; 12 grandchildren, Jacob, Josh and Jared Skelton, Zoe Todd, Brent (Dawn) Wilderman, Mindy Gauger, Chad Wilderman, Amanda (Andrew) Lynch, Chris (Jessica) Kuhner, John (Rachel) Beckham, Steven (Amanda) Beckham and Andi Jo (Steven) Scott; nine great grandchildren, Brooke and Peyton Wilderman, Taylor Gauger, Madison, Mason, Carmen and Ryan Wilderman, Brylee Kuhner and Hayden Lynch; a sister-in-law, Marilyn Cockrum; two brothers-in-law, Charles Beckham and Art Beckham; a sister-in-law, Ruth (Dave) Buford; numerous nieces and nephews as well as a host of friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Larry Cockrum.
Funeral services will be held from the Newell Funeral Home in Waltonville on Friday, December 8, 2017 at 10 A.M. with interment to follow at Abner Cemetery in Nason, Illinois.
Friends may call at the Newell Funeral Home on Thursday from 5 P.M. until 8 P.M. and again on Friday from 9 A.M. until the service hour.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Waltonville Freewill Baptist Church and will be accepted by the Newell Funeral Home.
