Sylvia M. Stelmazewski, 87, of Mount Vernon, Illinois passed away at 6:41 A.M. April 13, 2017 at Mount Vernon Countryside Manor in Mount Vernon, Illinois. She was born November 21, 1929 in Elk Prairie Township to parents, Walter L. and Rosa L. (Page) Williams. Sylvia first married William R. Degenhart on June 5, 1948 in Mount Vernon, Illinois. After his passing on February 4, 1969, she later married Joe Stelmazewski. He preceded her in death on May 31, 2001.
A Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at 10:00 A.M. at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois with Mr. Michael Sheets officiating. Interment will follow at Old Union Cemetery in Mount Vernon, Illinois.
A Visitation will be held Monday, April 17, 2017 from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois.
Sylvia is survived by her son, Bill Degenhart and wife, Marjorie of Mount Vernon, Illinois; grandchildren, Matthew Degenhart and wife, Whitney of Mount Vernon, Illinois, Susan Hall of Mount Vernon, Illinois, and Karen Whisenhunt and husband, Charlie of Scheller, Illinois; great-grandchildren, Brandon Hall, Bethanie Hall, and Cooper Degenhart; brothers, John Williams and wife, Karen of Enfield, Illinois and Ronald Williams and wife, Madonna of Oakdale, Illinois; and several nieces and nephews.
Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; and her sisters, Ethel Rikard and Violet Williams.
Sylvia was a receptionist at the Modert Clinic for over 20 years, worked as a clerk for the Scheller Post Office, a waitress at Opal's Restaurant in Mount Vernon, and a cook for Mount Vernon Care. She was a member of Elk Prairie Christian Church and the Senior Circle and Stitchers at Crossroads Community Hospital. She loved going on bus trips in her spare time. Sylvia was dearly loved and will be missed by all who knew her.
