Norma Alene Tennyson was born November 8, 1937 in Belle Rive, Illinois, the daughter of Wilma (Smith) and Nacie Atchison. She married James Ronald Tennyson on June 12, 1965 at the Belle Rive Missionary Baptist Church and he preceded her in death on March 21, 2009.
Norma accepted Jesus as her personal savior at an early age, and was a faithful member of the Belle Rive Missionary Baptist Church. She liked to sing in the choir and at one time was a song leader.
Norma was a retired school teacher having taught 46 years at Belle Rive and Bluford Grade Schools where she taught first and second grade.
She graduated from Belle Rive Grade School, Mt. Vernon High School and Southern Illinois University-Carbondale. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association and Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and brother-in-law, D. F. Bub Mallory.
She is survived by her sister, Doris Ginger Mallory; niece, Lawanda (Tony) Huggins of Belle Rive; and great niece, Malora Faith Huggins of Evansville, Indiana. Also surviving are sister-in-law, Mary Ann (Everett) Moore, their children, Kenneth, Christopher, Jacob and Josh Moore; Karla (Brad) Tucker and family; Karen (Herb) Davis and family.
Norma and Ronnie enjoyed to go shopping and travelled with many tour groups.
She loved God, her family, Church family, students, co-workers and friends.
She was loved very much and will be missed.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 14, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. at the Belle Rive Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Jeremy Hamson and Rev. Richard McCormick officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Flint Belle Rive Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, December 13, 2017 at the Belle Rive Missionary Baptist Church. Memorial donations may be made to the Belle Rive Missionary Baptist Church and will be accepted at the church or the Gholson Funeral Home in Dahlgren.
