Lowell Eugene Allen, 75, of Bonnie, Illinois passed away at 2:29 P.M. April 25, 2017 at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mount Vernon, Illinois. He was born October 5, 1941 in Bonnie, Illinois to parents, Earl and Freda (Merriman) Allen. Lowell married Darleen Pierce on May 25, 1964 at Bonnie Baptist Church. They were blessed with nearly 53 years of marriage.
A Funeral Service will be held Sunday, April 30, 2017 at 1:00 P.M. at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois with Reverend David Shores and Mr. Jason Newell officiating. Interment will follow at Bethel Memorial Cemetery in Mount Vernon, Illinois.
A Visitation will be held Saturday, April 29, 2017 from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois.
Lowell is survived by his wife, Darleen Allen of Bonnie, Illinois; children, Brent Allen and wife, Kelly of Bonnie, Illinois, Brad Allen and wife, Lori of Bonnie, Illinois, Kim Dent and husband, Todd of Bonnie, Illinois, and Kecia Foerster and husband, Shaun of Nolensville, Tennessee; grandchildren, Jesse and Justin Allen, Bria and Taylor Allen, Braxton and Briley Dent, and Maya Foerster; siblings, Donald Allen and wife, Mary of Mattoon, Illinois, Buddy Allen and wife, Brenda of Bonnie, Illinois, and Norma Harvill of Mount Vernon, Illinois; and several nieces and nephews.
Lowell was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Ray Allen and Paul Sonny Allen.
Lowell proudly served his country in the United States Army National Guard. He was of the Baptist faith. Lowell enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a farmer and a rural mail carrier for 30 years. Lowell was known as the Mailman of Bonnie, Illinois. He gained many friends on his route and was very well liked. Lowell also enjoyed watching the Saint Louis Cardinals and Nascar. Most of all, Lowell enjoyed being with his family and watching his grandchildren grow. He was dearly loved and will be missed by all who knew him.
