Jerry L. Bullock, 82, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, formerly of Bluford, passed away at 6:15 P.M. October 14, 2017 at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mount Vernon, Illinois. He was born December 9, 1934 in Jefferson County, Illinois to David and Althea (Dixon) Bullock. He married Vickie Standerfer on May 2, 1972.
Mr. Bullock is survived by his wife, Vickie Bullock of Mount Vernon; two sons, Kevin Bullock of Plainfield, Illinois and Terry Lee Bullock of Indianapolis, Indiana; granddaughter, Delaney Marie Bullock and her mother, Dawn of Plainfield, Illinois; two sisters-in-law, Beckie Roberts and husband, Cecil of Sesser, Illinois and Billie Shelton and husband, Jerry of Lillington, North Carolina; and two nephews, Jack Bullock of Mount Vernon, Illinois and Tony Shelton of Lillington, North Carolina; and many other nieces and nephews.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, nine brothers, and one sister.
Jerry retired from Local 520 Operating Engineers, UMWA Construction Workers and owned and operated Jerry's Auto Body in Bluford for several years. He enjoyed fishing, bird-watching, and gardening, especially raising tomatoes. Paw Paw loved spending time with his granddaughter, Delaney, and will be remembered as being "generous to a fault". He never met a stranger and generally enjoyed being with people. He was a loving husband, father, friend, and Paw Paw and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
A greeting of family and friends will be from 12:00 to 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, October 17, 2017 at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, October 17, 2017 at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois with Reverend Merle Fullerton officiating.
Inurnment will take place at Woodlawn I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Woodlawn, Illinois at a later date. Memorials: American Cancer Society, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, or the Shriners International.
