James Ralph "J.R." Lamberson, 82, of Mount Vernon, Illinois passed away at 7:29 A.M. September 28, 2017 at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mount Vernon. He was born June 22, 1935 in Hannibal, Missouri to Ralph Kennedy and Mary Louise (Anderson) Lamberson. J.R. married Marietta Henderson on August 10, 1956 in Mount Vernon.
In addition to his wife of 61 years, Mr. Lamberson is survived by his children, Steve Lamberson, Sheila Lamberson and Cheryl Divine, Vicky Lamberson, Jay and Julia Lamberson, and Greg Lamberson; grandchildren, Ian and Jessica Moore, Chelsee Bean, and Skyler Lamberson; great-grandchildren, Mia and Jaxson Moore, Annie Bean, Braxton Lamberson, and Tucker Lamberson; step-grandson, Adam and Melissa Fico; step-great-grandchildren, Tori, Mia, Maya, and Vivianna Fico; sister, Jan and Wendall Yaeger; sisters-in-law, Nona Buford and Sondra and Terry Wafler; brother-in-law, Andrew Henderson; nephews, Michael and Alicia Yaeger and family, Scott Buford and family, Laird Henderson and family, and Derek and Melody Wafler and family; nieces, Amy Yaeger, Stacy and Jimmie Gilbert and family, Becky and Mark Bernhardy and family, Barb Buford, and Heather and Scott Lake and family.
Mr. Lamberson was preceded in death by his parents; father and mother-in-law, Murl and Winona (Andrews) Henderson; his beloved aunt Ruth (L.J.) Coleman; brother-in-law, Phil Buford; and sister-in-law, Lin Henderson.
J.R. began his career at King City Federal Savings and Loan as assistant loan officer and later became Executive Officer at Mount Vernon Savings and Loan. With friends, Don Musick and J.C. Linvingston, he purchased the Emmerson Hotel. Other ventures included a cab company, managing The Carpet Place, owning The Paneling Center and working in Real Estate and Appraisal, first for Gallery of Homes and later for Cross Davidson Real Estate from where he retired due to ill health.
Mr. Lamberon enjoyed working in his yard, riding his scooter, and was an avid Cardinal Baseball fan. He was always busy with a project, and if he was unable to complete the tasks, he directed whomever he found to do the work.
J.R. loved his family. He helped many people through the years giving 105 pints of blood through the Red Cross and building many low income houses throughout Mount Vernon.
Mr. Lamberson was a member of Central Christian Church, a lifetime member of Amvets, was a member of the Mo. Air National Guard as a Crypto Decoder, had been active as an officer in B.P.O.E. Elks Lodge #819, Mount Vernon Jaycees, and various professional organizations.
Visitation: Monday, October 2, 2017 from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois. Funeral Service: Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at 10:30 A.M. at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois with Mr. Randy Sells and Mr. J Howard Kraps officiating. Interment: Oakwood Cemetery in Mount Vernon, Illinois. Memorials: Central Christian Church.
