Fern R. Jordan, 82, of Mount Vernon, Illinois passed away at 9:15 A.M. April 25, 2017 at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mount Vernon, Illinois. She was born October 22, 1934 in Jefferson County, Illinois to parents, Raleigh R. and Olga (Costley) Kowalski. She married Melvin Richard Jordan on December 14, 1957 in Woodlawn, Illinois and he preceded her in death on September 1, 2002.
A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, April 29, 2017 at Park Avenue Baptist Church in Mount Vernon, Illinois with Reverend Merle Fullerton and Reverend Gary Davenport officiating. Interment will follow at Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn, Illinois.
A Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. Friday, April 28, 2017 at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois.
Fern is survived by her son, John Jordan and wife Daphne of Bluford, Illinois; daughter, Vickie Hibdon and husband Dan of Mount Vernon, Illinois; granddaughter, Karlee Skelton; two nephews, Larry Lockard and Phillip Lockard; two nieces, Connie Day and husband Gary and Teresa Kowalski; and several great nieces and great nephews.
Her parents; husband; one brother, Clarence Ray Kowalski; and three sisters, Freda Williams, Gladys Thompson, and Marie Lockard preceded her in death.
Mrs. Jordan worked as a secretary at the Shoe Factory in Mount Vernon and as a bookkeeper at Eastside Lumber. She was a member of Park Avenue Baptist Church in Mount Vernon and the Red Hat Society. She was an avid Saint Louis Cardinals fan and had a great love of gospel music and attending gospel singings. Fern was dearly loved by all who knew her and will be greatly missed.
