Dorothy Maxine Carnes, 94, of Henderson, Nevada, formerly of Mount Vernon, passed away at 8:29 A.M. Sunday, April 30, 2017 at St. Rose Dominican Hospital - Siena Campus in Henderson, Nevada. She was born March 24, 1923 in Arcola, Illinois to parents, Alva Ralph & Ora Louvada (Williams) Carnes.
A Graveside Service will be held at 1:00 P.M. June 3, 2017 at Mount Zion Cemetery in Bluford, Illinois with Reverend Dorothy Ross officiating and interment to follow.
Dorothy Carnes is survived by her sister, Evelyn Guill of Mount Vernon, Illinois; 8 nieces and nephew, Patricia Maddox of Mount Vernon, Illinois, Marian Tennyson of Mount Vernon, Illinois, Marilyn McElhaney of Spring Hill, Tennessee, Robert Guill, Jr. of Midlothian, Virginia, Dorothy Ross of Mount Vernon, Illinois, JoAnn Kowbel of Tucson, Arizona, Karla Foster of La Porte, Indiana, and Linda Awald of Walkerton, Indiana; sister-in-law, Burdetta Carnes of La Porte, Indiana; several great-grand nieces and nephews; and many excellent caregivers.
She is preceded in death by her parents; sister, Marjorie Thompson; brother, Floyd Carnes; nephew; Floyd Carnes, Jr.; and a special friend, Bob Hue.
Dorothy owned and operated 3 Alii gift shops in Honolulu, Hawaii for many years until retirement. She liked to travel, especially abroad. She loved spending time with her friends and was a member of "Loners on Wheels" travelers club. She will be loved and missed by everyone who knew her.
