Doral Eugene "Gene" GaVette, 99, of St. Charles, IL went to walk with Jesus the morning of October 10th, 2017.
Gene was born in Mt. Vernon, IL on December 8th, 1917. He was the second child, of six, born to Alva Raymond GaVette and Lola Fern Smith-GaVette. Gene was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Conita Mae Sneed GaVette on August 16, 2015. He was also preceded in death by his parents and all five of his siblings, Doris "Leon" GaVette, Orian Elwood "Tuffy" GaVette, Billy "Bob" GaVette, Dorma Maxine GaVette and Ronald Lee GaVette.
Gene was an Army WWII Veteran who served under General George C. Patton, European Theater from June 1940-October 1945 in HD Company, 3rd Battalion, 33rd Armored Regimen of the 3rd Armored Division with a rank of T-5.
He is survived by his daughters and son-in-laws, Linnea & Jack Gatewood, of The Woodlands, Texas and Bernita & Carl "Skip" Blades, of St. Charles, Illinois; his grand children Tifney Fields and her husband Mike Fields, Gretchen Withers and her husband Adam Withers, and Jeremiah Blades; as well as his four great-grand children, Adria & Mitchell Fields and Madelyn & Amelia Withers.
Services will be held at Johnston Funeral Home in Ina, Illinois on Thursday, October 12th, 2017. Visitation will be from 1-3pm, followed by a celebration of life service and a military burial. We welcome family, friends and fellow military personnel to join us in remembrance of his life, dedication to his family and his country.
